How to Create Tweets that Get Retweeted by Influencers

Did you know that the smaller the post, the higher the engagement on Twitter? Well, now you know, and one of the best ways to make your tweets short is adding data. Interestingly, short and data-driven tweets get more retweets than any other type of tweet.
Consider these two tweets:
“70% of businesses that tweet have high revenues than those that don’t”
“The majority of businesses on Twitter have high revenues that those who aren’t.”
Which of the two are you more likely to retweet? If you mentioned the second tweet, then you are no different from the majority of the influencers out there. It is much easier to visualize a number than just a statement. What is more, a number is more tangible, sort of like putting a price on an item.
Here is another example:
“More people use Facebook than Twitter, with LinkedIn being the least used every day.”
“95% log into Facebook, 60% on Twitter, 30% on LinkedIn, every single day.”
From the above, you can clearly see which of the tweets offers more value. The second tweet is not only more valuable, but is shorter and can be quickly scanned. Crunching numbers into your tweets may seem counter-intuitive, but this is actually what Twitter was made for – to provide as much info using 140 characters as possible.
- Use #hashtags
According to a 2013 study by Hubspot, tweets with #hashtags are 55 percent more likely to get retweeted. However, don’t #spam with #hashtags just to get publicity. According to Twitter’s best practices, it is recommended to use “no more than 2 hashtags per Tweet.” What is more, only use hashtags on relevant topics otherwise you will be misleading others, and this is not cool.
Think of hashtags as themes for your tweets. In other words, when you include a hashtag in your tweet, you are deliberately categorizing your tweet while at the same time linking to it since hashtags are clickable. By hashtagging, you are potentially allowing your tweet to be seen by millions of other Twitter followers, most of whom could influence its spread.
