The Ethereum blockchain network is a distributed network of computers that run software to verify transactions and blocks. In order to run the software, an Ethereum Node must be connected to the client. Ethereum node are essential for the network to run smoothly. Blockchain networks are made up of nodes, which are the only way to access them. To validate transactions and keep track of blockchain status, nodes communicate with one another.
